AR Rahman is an internationally renowned artist who has not only sung but also composed award-winning songs. Michael Jackson is the King of Pop who got the world singing and grooving to songs such as Thriller, Beat It, Billie Jean, Black or White and many more. Now imagine these two powerhouses coming together. Well, during a recent interaction, Rahman revealed such a collab would have taken place, but unfortunately, MJ passed away. AR Rahman on meeting Michael Jackson

During a recent meet and greet event organized in Malaysia, AR Rahman opened up about meeting Michael Jackson in 2009. In a video shared online by Free Malaysia Today, the world-renowned singer-music composer recalled meeting the King of Pop after winning his first Oscar award. Stating that he met someone who managed Michael in Los Angeles in ’09, Rahman said, “I asked if I could meet him. An email was sent out but there was no response for a week. Then, I got nominated for the Oscars (for Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire). Michael’s team said he wanted to meet me. I said, ‘I don’t want to meet him now. I’ll meet him when I’ve won an Oscar.'”

Recalling the meeting, AR Rahman called it a ‘top of the world’ feeling. The singer said, “I met him at a home in LA the day after I won it. He was very kind, we spoke about music and world peace. He said, why don’t we do the next We Are The World, introduced me to his kids. MJ even showed me how he dances from the heart.”

MJ almost sang for Rajinikanth’s Enthiran

Talking about Micheal Jackson almost singing for Shankar’s Enthiran, Rahman revealed that he told filmmaker Shankat about his meeting with MJ on his return to India. He said, “Shankar sir asked me if he would sing for the film. I said, ‘Wow, will he sing a Tamil song?’ I asked. He said, ‘Whatever you say, we’ll do together.'” Unfortunately, Michael died in June of that year. Rahman said, “He was sick at that time.”
